Jewelry Making Supplies for the Beginner

Jewelry making supplies for the beginner are very basic. There is no need to run to your local hobby store and buy many packets of wires, beads, rhinestones, clasps and tools. Sticking to the basics is the best scenario when beginning to make jewelry.

The basic jewelry making supplies are simply jewelry wire, beads and findings. Findings are a jewelry world term for jewelry making components. In other words, findings are the pieces which make the wire and bead a piece of jewelry. The basic jewelry making tools are a flush cutter, round nose pliers, chain nose and bent nose tools. There are thousands of jewelry making kits you can choose from which will contain all of these necessary jewelry making supplies.

Wires

Jewelry wire comes in different metals. Brass, copper, silver, gold, silver-plated, gold-plated and gold-filled wires are generally the types which are a part of the beginner’s jewelry making supplies. This jewelry wire is sold in several different sizes, or gauges. The most common gauges for making jewelry are 16, 18, 20 and 22. The 24 and 26 gauges are used, but very infrequently.

Beads

Beads are the decorative pieces made from many different materials. Beads can be made from plastic, glass, wood, stone, metal, bone, precious or semi-precious materials. There are thousands of websites and retail outlets where the beginning jeweler can purchase beads.

Findings

Findings are the jewelry components and jewelry making supplies must contain findings in order to create their jewelry. These findings consist of clasps, head pins, ear wires, jump rings and other manufactured or hand made components. The beginning jeweler must purchase head pins, clasps, ear wires or posts and ear clutches. These three findings categories are really all that is necessary to begin any jewelry making project.

Tools

The basic jewelry making tools can be found under jewelry making supplies on the internet or in your local hobby store. The tools which are required are the flush cutter, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers and bent chair nose pliers. You will not be successful in making jewelry without these four tools. The recommended jewelry making hand tools are nylon jaw pliers, ruler, step jaw pliers, chasing hammer, anvil or bench block, cup bur and loop closing or bent closing pliers. The required tools will be contained in any prepackaged beginner’s kit. The recommended tools will have to be purchased separately.

When researching jewelry making supplies for beginners, be sure and look at beginner’s prepackaged kits. Make sure they contain all of the above jewelry making tools. There will (or should) be instruction sheets with each one. Continue researching until you find a fun and beautiful jewelry project. Set up a jewelry making area, and your experience will be a pleasant and easy one. Enjoy!

Jewelry Cleaning - The Cheap and Easy Way

Tip! The most expensive way of finishing sterling silver jewelry is using Rhodium. Rhodium is a precious metal that is even more expensive than silver.

A Man’s Jewelry Can Be Extended To Anything

Tip! Some silver jewelry has a black antique look to cater to certain consumers. These items are processed by putting the jewelry into chemical solution to oxide the silver before polishing and the pricing is similar to that of high polished ones.

When is it common to see a man wearing lavish jewelry around the neck, on the ears, or on the wrist? While there are some men out there who will flaunt their ice, you probably won’t see a man wearing lots of jewelry. In comparison to women, men are generally more modest in their jewelry wear.

But what about wearing jewelry on a special occasion, like on a groom’s wedding day? A man’s jewelry might be especially highlighted then, featuring his wedding ring and maybe some cufflinks or a bracelet.

Tip! ) For a slightly more ‘in-depth’ cleaning you may want to use a liquid jewelry cleaner.

When I think about a man’s jewelry, the only thought that comes to mind is a wedding ring. Little did I realize that a man’s jewelry is also extended to cufflinks and bracelets but also to key rings, money clips and tie bars and tie tacks. Items that I once thought were basic accessories are now reconsidered as a man’s formal jewelry.

Aside from a typical man’s jewelry that comes in gold or silver form, a man’s jewelry doesn’t just include his wedding ring. In this article, a man’s jewelry will be defined as an accessory in which a man treasures and wears frequently.

Tie tack-My dad still has the eagle tie tack that my brother presented to him many years ago when he received his Eagle Scout rank. Not much of a jewelry fan, my dad will wear the tie tack for church as a proud display of his son’s recognition. For my dad, the tie tack is a sentimental treasure, and for him, it is his own personal jewelry.

Tip! ) For daily cleaning it is recommended to use a simple jewelry polishing cloth that is impregnated with special jewelry cleaner. These are widely available and are very easy to use.

Bracelets-You might not qualify this next item as ‘jewelry’ but it can be a man’s (or a boy, for the matter) fashionable accessory. In grade school, one of the ‘coolest’ things to wear was a slap bracelet, featured in various fluorescent colors and designs. I recall boys especially using these multipurpose bracelets not only to sport, but to also keep them busily entertained and occupied in class or at recess.

Key rings-A key ring as a man’s jewelry? A key ring holds what’s important to a man; the keys to his home, his car, job, or key chains that highlight a vacation or his personal interests. The frequent carrying of a key ring requires the man to find a suitable key ring to his taste. As little and maybe unnoticeable a key ring may be, as long as a man requires access to his many entries, he will be seen with his key ring. Better yet, let it be a fashionable key ring!

Now that you can stretch the definition of what a man’s jewelry can be, it can be just about anything so long as it’s what he values wearing.
